E-Mail and SMS Phishing are among the most common frauds in cyberspace. These scammers send you messages that appear to come from banks, courier companies, government departments or well-known brands. Usually, those messages contain some form of urgency attached to them – account locked, failed purchase or refund notices, claiming you a prize.
These generally include a malicious link or a request for the user to respond with a photo of something sensitive. Clicking on the link directs the victim to a fake website bearing resemblance to the original. Once the users enter their login details or OTP, fraudsters obtain these and use the same for financial frauds or identity theft.

- Fake Emails and SMS aise sender se aaye jise aap na jaante ho ya jise aap suspicious samajh rahe hain

- The links apan fake hain ya short URLs diye gaye ho
- They have extracts of their personal information or OTPs or login details kyon maange gaye ho

Aarav receives a message, “Your bank account will be blocked today. Click here to verify.”
He clicked on the link and entered the OTP on a fake page. In some time, ₹60,000 were transferred from his account.

- Sec 420 (Cheating) of IPC would apply.
- There is a crime called unauthorized access in IT act.
- Fake links and spoofed email are punishable.
