IPC Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code deals with punishments for abetment of suicide. It punishes anyone who causes, helps or advises another person to die by suicide.In order to successfully plead this act as a crime, there must be a causal relationship between the stimuli caused by the defendant and the resultant self-inflicted death.

This isn’t casual sniping or small-scale harassment — the needle needs to be moved so that the target feels they’ve lost themselves and everything has become untenable. Courts will look at intent, a pattern of continued harassment, mental pressure and environmental circumstances.

Section 306 IPC refers to the cases when you push another person into committing suicide — either directly or indirectly.
